Worked example
Converting 1,000 USD to EUR at a mid-market rate of 0.92 gives 920 EUR. A bank adding a 1.5% margin hands over 906.20 EUR — the 13.80 EUR difference is the spread, which is why the effective rate matters more than an advertised "zero fee".
How the rate is applied
Converted = Amount × Rate × (1 − Fee). Cross rates (say GBP to INR) are derived by dividing both currencies' base rates. Rates refresh live each session and are cached in your browser for 12 hours so the converter still works offline.
